{"id":2651,"date":"2013-11-12T20:08:33","date_gmt":"2013-11-12T20:08:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.photographycourselondon.com\/blog\/?p=2651"},"modified":"2015-02-13T13:55:17","modified_gmt":"2015-02-13T13:55:17","slug":"family-politics-show-at-the-jerwood-space","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/photographycourselondon.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/family-politics-show-at-the-jerwood-space\/","title":{"rendered":"Family Politics show at The Jerwood Space"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This month you should pop down to The Jerwood Space and have a look around the Family Politics exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition is showing new commissions and existing work by six early career photographers relating to \u2018Family Politics\u2019.<br \/>\nExhibiting artists include invited artists Claudia Sola and The Photocopy Club; and artists selected from an open call, Jonny Briggs, Robert Crosse, Nikolai Ishchuk and Joanna Piotrowska. The exhibition explores the different ways in which artists consider and use photographic practice resulting in an expanded view of the medium.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.photographycourselondon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/grace8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2662\" src=\"https:\/\/www.photographycourselondon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/grace8.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"510\" height=\"381\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photographycourselondon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/grace8.jpg 510w, https:\/\/photographycourselondon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/grace8-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 510px) 100vw, 510px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a subject, the family is both private and public: the site of intimate inter-personal relations and a social construct subject to public and political pressures. This relationship is mirrored in examples of family photography. The majority of family pictures serve essentially private functions, accruing meaning through their relationship to the memories, experiences and histories of individuals. However, the family is also the subject of public photographic representation and contestation largely through digital media and \u2018over sharing\u2019. This involves a wide variety of practices, including representations in the mass media, art and advertising.&#8221;JS<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.photographycourselondon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/grace71.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2664\" src=\"https:\/\/www.photographycourselondon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/grace71.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Grace from the PCL office has some photographs included in this exhibition.
