{"id":4949,"date":"2019-06-18T13:22:24","date_gmt":"2019-06-18T12:22:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/photographycourselondon.com\/blog\/?p=4949"},"modified":"2019-06-18T13:28:08","modified_gmt":"2019-06-18T12:28:08","slug":"kiss-my-genders-exhibition-june-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/photographycourselondon.com\/blog\/2019\/06\/kiss-my-genders-exhibition-june-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Kiss My Genders&#8217; exhibition at the Hayward Gallery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend Photography Course London went to check out the new multi-media exhibition <a href=\"http:\/\/https:\/\/www.southbankcentre.co.uk\/whats-on\/130821-kiss-my-genders-2019\">&#8216;Kiss My Genders&#8217;<\/a>\u00a0at the Hayward Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>This brand new immersive exhibitions features over 100 pieces of artwork, from more than 30 international artists, including one of our tutors, <a href=\"http:\/\/https:\/\/www.hollyfalconer.com\">Holly Falconer<\/a>,\u00a0and is a celebration of Gender and Sexual Identity.<\/p>\n<p>Together the photography, films, sculptures, paintings and other installations colloborate\u00a0to create a profound, mesmerising and thought provoking experience which chapters\u00a050 years of non-binary, trans and intersex identities and experiences from across the globe.<\/p>\n<p>Amongst the vast media\u00a0capturing and exploring the fluidity in sexuality and gender, the photography and portraiture of LGBT+ and queer individuals really stands out.<\/p>\n<p>One of the first major pieces of photography is a portrait of Amrou Al-Khadi shot by Holly Falconer, the triple exposure brilliantly\u00a0explores the different aspects of their identity, being a drag performer with Muslim heritage.<\/p>\n<p>The first floor is dedicated to a room of broad\u00a0and rich photography, displayed on pastel coloured boards,\u00a0that mirror the transgender and bigender flags. \u00a0The earliest example of photography is Pierre Moliner&#8217;s eroctic montages and ranges\u00a0from Peter Hujar&#8217;s portraits of drag artists Ethyl Eichelberger and The Cockettes and transgender actress Candy Darling to Martine Gutierrez&#8217;s bright and colourful study of beauty standards and stereotypes.<\/p>\n<p>At a time where hate crimes are still current in London and the meaning and purpose of Pride is still not fully understood, &#8216;Kiss My Genders&#8217; is a welcome and important addition to Londons exhibition scene.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-4951\" src=\"https:\/\/photographycourselondon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Kiss-My-Gender-700x462.jpg\" alt=\"'Kiss My Genders' exhibition - Hayward Gallery 2019\" width=\"640\" height=\"422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/photographycourselondon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Kiss-My-Gender-700x462.jpg 700w, https:\/\/photographycourselondon.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Kiss-My-Gender-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This weekend Photography Course London went to check out the new multi-media exhibition &#8216;Kiss My Genders&#8217;\u00a0at the Hayward Gallery.
