Photography Course London Facebook Competition

Our second Facebook competition is up and running!
We had such a huge reaction to our first Facebook competition and some amazing entires, we have thought up a new theme for you all to sink your teeth into.
The theme for our second competition is ‘Film Still’.  The idea is to create a single image that tells a story in just one frame. It could be in black and white or colour, it’s completely up to you. Interpret the theme however you wish but remember, the more imaginative, the better!
You can submit up to 3 images for the chance to win a  6 month subscription to The British Journal of Photography magazine!
The closing date for images is midnight on 25 November. Winners will then be announced on Monday 5 December.

Grace’s blog post | London Fashion Week

So, for my second adventure and wonder through the streets of London, I thought I’d incorporate some of my personal interests and areas that I have a great passion for, (not that the previous places were dull and uninteresting to me, far from it!) but there was a specific exhibition I had in mind, and I thought it would fit in nicely this month (as it is fashion related) what with it being the Autumn/Winter Fashion Weeks and all, and in particular London Fashion week, it really was perfect timing!

The place I had in mind was the Gimpel Fils Gallery, situated just off of Oxford Street in the smart and somewhat overly priced part of central London.

PCL Portraiture Course with tutor Cleveland Aaron

© student Andrew Paper 2011

Our established Studio Lighting: Portraits Course is delivered by Cleveland Aaron, a highly regarded photographer in the fashion, music and portraiture industry and takes place in Cleveland’s private East London studio.

For both beginners and intermediates, the aim of the course is to learn about the importance of light and how to control it as well as the relationship between photographer and sitter. You will work with natural daylight and studio flash and we will provide a ‘sitter/model’ so each participant gets more hands–on time taking photographs.

You will concentrate on head and shoulders compositions and learn how measure exposure using the light meter, as well as getting tips on how to work with normal household lamps. You will gain confidence using one flash head and a reflector to create an evenly lit subject and towards the end of the day you will focus on group portraits.

Read what student Frank had to say about the course…..
‘What I liked best was the opportunity to learn directly from a first class professional photographer who was passionate in communicating excellence.  Equally valuable was the opportunity to talk and practice with a small group of like minded aspiring professionals, swapping ideas and methods.  I liked the small group in workshop style and it was refreshing to work on how to communicate through photography in addition to practicing excellent technical methods.’

Grace’s blog post | East London Exhibitions

Hi, I’m Grace. I am an intern at Photography Course London.
I have been given the challenge to explore the streets of London and visit the many photography exhibitions, events and such like that i squeeze into the amount of time i have here.
For my first blog post i decided to explore some of East London’s photography exhibitions in the hope of finding something new and exciting.

I prepared myself for my tour of East London’s galleries, armed with a notebook, several badly hand drawn maps (by myself) and the name of four galleries on my ‘hit list’.
First up was the Whitechapel Gallery, in particular the Thomas Struth exhibition. After catching the tube to Aldgate East, and exiting via the correct stairway (I’m quite skilled at going in the wrong direction out of tube stations), I turned my head slightly to the left to get my bearings, and there it was right next to me. Perfect! Or so I thought….
