From one of Cristina’s many photographic series, ‘In the Bamboo Forest’ (Chiba, Japan, 2009) explores the holy grass of Asia, Bamboo.
‘Fascinated by the resilience and the beauty of this unique grass, I step into the bamboo forest and I look at it from within. I want to be like the wind that shakes these weeds, like the light that filters through revealing infinite shades of green. I walk around searching for that one frame that would allow me to re-present the experience, and I know that I am searching in vain. Looking around from among the bamboo, the eyes never stop. To freeze the view in one single frame would mean to annihilate myself, and the landscape of which I am a part.’ Cristina Sáez

Renowned Hackney based photographer Tom Hunter has worked with residents of the Woodberry Down Estate, the site of a major regeneration project to create a film called
A Palace for Us. It includes interviews, archival imagery and scenes re-creating life on the Estate throughout it’s entire history. The film focuses on social housing in London while Hunter believes that today, social housing and socialism is coming to an end.
Hunter says that he’s dealing with ‘propaganda’ as well in this film as although he accepts there are a lot of problems with these estates, he wants to look at the good side of it, as they were ‘amazing places when they started off’.
‘Co-commissioned by Age Concern, this film is part of the Serpentine Gallery’s Skills Exchange Project, where artists, designers and architects work in collaboration with older people, care workers, young people and activists to develop ideas for social and architectural change’ Serpentine Gallery.
On until 20th January so hurry to the Serpentine Gallery and don’t miss it !

Lots of people turned up to the first night of Mikael Eliasson’s new exhibition, Resemblance. Away from the crowded Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery, Resemblance is a rare treat to see a range of interesting portraits of families that play a part in the everyday life of this photographer.
When you walk through the slightly unusual exhibition space and finally reach the end, there is only the option of turning around and returning the way you came. This gives you a chance to ‘think again’ and question or reaffirm your first impressions of the photographs on display.
Go and see this exhibition at Exit Gallery, Claire de Rouen books, 121-125 Charing Cross Road, Soho. Open every day (except Sunday) until the 12th February.
Photography Course London tutor and professional photographer Mikael Eliasson presents his new exhibition, Resemblance.
Eliasson has documented a range of families over the past year, from his own extended family and close friends, to individuals from local family businesses who play a part in his everyday.
Resemblance is an ongoing project studying not only the beauty that lies in the inherent facial similarities of individuals within a family, but also the genuine charm of the characteristics that clearly set us apart from our relatives.
See the exhibition at www.clairederouenbooks.com from the 16th Dec to 12th Feb 2011.
